The learning style of Australia is different to most countries; our lessons evoke creativity, individual opinions and open debate and a thorough understanding of a topic/subject. You will be required to participate in class discussions where you can express your own views and thoughts to young Australians. You will be assed on a combination of assignments, exams, participation in class, attendance and your contribution in group activities.

Plagiarism can have major consequences in Australia which can jeopardise your student visa in Australia. Plagiarism in where you take someone else’s work and say it is your own in an assessment task. This can include large amounts of text copied from a book where the author wasn’t credited for it. The international office in your institution should be able to help you with referencing.


Consumer Protection


Australia has laws that are designed to protect you as an international student and ensure that, while you are in Australia, you receive a high quality education, training and courses. 

The Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) law includes the following:

  • You are protected if your course fails to exists, you will either get the fees refunded or be able to change to a different course
  • You must have accurate and in date material given to you by your educational institution before your Confirmation of Enrolment is received.  This should include such things as course information and length, teaching methods and assessments, English language requirement and the learning resources of the facilities
  • The educational institution should provide international student services with information on orientation, accommodation, study, as well as be approachable to discuss any problems that may occur while studying
  • The international office is designed to help international students with opening bank accounts and enrolment matters. They are also there to help you settle into Australian life, so feel free to be able to talk to them, they are there for your guidance.  International students that use these services are very happy with the result and found it easier to settle into the Australian life.
  • There are also services available for students with disabilities, including voice recognition software, hearing aids or even note taking services. Make sure the educational institution is informed of the disability prior to you entering Australia.
